We have arrived in Prague and thought we could do a quick update before we head out to pick Luce up at the airport. We are so excited to see Luce! Together the three of us will be exploring Prague, Berlin and Amsterdam.

For now though lets look back over the last week.

We have explored cafes, markets and architecture in Vienna. Checked out where Sigmund Freud was born in Pribor, The Czech Republic. Drove to Auschwitz memorial site in Poland. Eaten delicious steak, seen brown bears and explored in Cesky Krumlov. And finally this morning drove to Prague where we will spend two nights.

Here are some photos of the last week to tell our tales:

Cafe Sperl in Vienna. We relaxed and escaped the heat

Exploring Vienna

The Nascht market in Vienna. Incredible sights and smells. The markets sold the freshest fruit, veg, chesses, bread, meat, fish and flowers. We enjoyed a few hours wandering and checking out all the stalls and produce. Here are some barrels of oil

 Vinegar at the markets

Market nibbles. Anti pasto platters everywhere

Willy the wombat relaxes at one of the cafes in Vienna. We spent the afternoon here reading and relaxing

Willy the wombat was much loved at all the hostels we stayed at. Here he is being cuddled in Viennas Wombats hostel.

The Hofburg Palace, Vienna. This was a beautiful day with not a cloud in the sky.

More beautiful Vienna. We would have loved to have gone to the opera whilst here as we have heard it is must do. Unfortunately nothing was being shown in July so no such luck.

On our way to Pribor in the Czech Republic. We found the Czech train system a little lax compared to the ruthless German efficiency and ended up delayed and missing trains. Here is Aaron on the tiny little train that finally pulled us into Pribor seven hours later. So hot and tired, still smiling.

The home where Sigmund Freud was born and lived for the first few years of his life. This is now a museum. Our hotel is right next door. Hotel U Freud.

Aaron talks it out on Sigmunds couch

Willy the wombat tells his darkest secrets

Aaron driving on the right side of the road for the first time! We hired a car in Pribor and drove into Poland. We were upgraded to a Skoda ottavia which has been very nice. Aaron did very well navigating a manual car through some tight roads and a few detours.

Auschwitz. We had a very good guide who took us through Auschwitz camp 1 and Birkenau for over three hours. They have preserved much of the camp and present it very respectfully with a focus on educating the public and younger generations so history will never repeat itself.

Ciclon B. Toxic gas used as a means of extermination. Horrifying

Many of the victims of Auschwitz had all their personal belongings violently taken from them on arrival at the camp. Some of these items are displayed today including suitcases (above), shoes, clothes, hair brushes and childrens toys.

The train platform at Birkenau. If prisoners survived the journey to the camp it is here where soon after arrival they were beaten and separated from their loved ones. Quickly being selected by the SAS either for immediate death in the gas chambers or hard work in the camp. Never again.

Lunch in Telc and very nice town in the Czech Republic

The beautiful colours in the main square of Telc.

Telc is known for its many beautiful fish ponds

We walked and explored Telc after lunch.

On to Cesky Krumlov. This is the little pension we stayed at, pension Mastal. They did the best beef steaks and an impressive brekkie spread. Very nice place to stay.

The view from our pension room in Cesky Krumlov

Cesky has a fast flowing river and many places offer kayaking and rafting. A bit of rain so we donned rain coats and headed out for the morning

The main turret

Climbing up into the castle. Hiding out from the rain

Nice view over the town. Cesky Krumlov is pretty even on a rainy day

We found two very active brown bears around the base of the castle.

Well thats all for now folks we are off to collect Luce (yay!).

Love to all from Prague

Aaron & Floss
